Coffee & People Watching

Date number two!!! This is one of my dates from January (so was eye bombing) that I missed & I am catching up on. I still have dates from February, & March to catch up on, since I was deciding on what to do with the date project during that time. I was so excited to go on this date (this is a great date to get to know someone). I’m going on this date with one of my new friends, Allison!
I met Allison throw the Towson University chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success. Remember those strangers I mentioned in my ‘About Me’ section, whom encouraged me to follow through with my blog. Allison is one of those lovely strangers, just not so strange anymore…lol. She is one of four wonderful ladies put in my Success Networking Team with me (SNTs); Kelly, Samantha, and Sarah you will learn about later!
On this date Allison and I went to grab coffee and people watch! I have never been the best people watcher, but I’m getting better at it. People watching (in our case at least) meant we had to look at the individuals passing by and either pretend like we were having their conversation (which can be a blast if you have animated people you are observing), comment on their appearance (judge them, judge them all), or discuss the mannerisms or behaviors we observed (okay you saw that to, it was weird right...).
While standing in line to get our delicious (yet overpriced) Starbucks coffee, we saw a boy with the best worst hair ever. This young man had spiked hair all over his head. Allison and I described it as Dragon Ball Z hair. As the more discussion about his hair continued Allison decided his hair was more Sonic then Dragon Ball Z. I was unable to get my camera out before this young man walked away but I found a picture similar to what he looked like. Help us decide… Sonic or Dragon Ball Z hair???

Some of our favorite people during our date included the girl with the crazy pants, skin colored pants work for nobody woman, WV plaid short with lumberjack shirt boy, and Halloween spider web beehive hair lady (we really do love her hair). We also had the lucky not so lucky experience of watching a young man eat an ice cream cone. Now I don’t know how many of you have ever watch another person eat… but I didn’t really mean to it just kind of happened. This man was licking and turning his ice cream cone in a way that it was hard not to notice (if you get what I’m saying). Then the unspeakable happened… our eyes made contact while he was mid-lick & I couldn’t look away. Allison was cracking up. I was praying he didn’t get the wrong idea. Never make eye contact while eating ice cream (or a banana or Popsicle, while we are on the subject)!

This date included a getting to know more about you question! Allison chose-If you could ensure that your child has one experience that you have had yourself, what would you want it to be? When she was younger her parents took her to the Philippines to meet the family she has there. She said there was a lot of great food (street food) including fried fish balls and a dessert made from Ube which are purple yams (which sounded so delicious & kind of strange). Her hope is that by the time she has a child it isn’t to expensive to go see her family since the cost to go to the Philippines is already so much more then when she went as a child.

I had to answer the same question as part of our date but lucky for me I was already able to given my child the experience I had that I would want him to have. When I was young my father took me on a 2 week long road trip, just the two of us. It was great! We stopped and did a bunch of tourist stuff and it is one of my favorite childhood memories. Three years ago I took my son on an 8 week long road trip (granted it was longer but we camped, when I was young we stayed in hotels). I took him to a bunch of tourist attractions, even a few of the same ones that my dad had taken me too (one of my favorites being Graceland)! It was the best!! If you had to answer this question what would you say?
Allison and I had a great time chatting and getting to know each other outside of our SNT group! Even with the weird ice cream cone guy and our strangely dressed peers. This is a date that will get you talking and make time fly!
So what did we learn from this date?
Never make eye contact while eating anything follicle shaped…EVER!
Even though it can be fun, never judge a book by its cover.
Always stay unique & be true to yourself no matter who is watching!
